This morning China and the EU announced their retaliatory tariffs to the tariffs that President Tariff placed on them trying to say they were “reciprocal” tariffs…
China’s statement as translated by Google:
April 9, 2025 Source: Office of the Tariff Commission of the State Council
On April 8, 2025, the US government announced that it would increase the “reciprocal tariff” on Chinese goods exported to the US from 34% to 84%. The US’s practice of escalating tariffs on China is a mistake on top of a mistake, which seriously infringes on China’s legitimate rights and interests, seriously damages the rules-based multilateral trading system, and seriously impacts the stability of the global economic order. It is a typical example of unilateralism, protectionism, and economic bullying.
In accordance with the Tariff Law of the People’s Republic of China, the Customs Law of the People’s Republic of China, the Foreign Trade Law of the People’s Republic of China and other laws and regulations and the basic principles of international law, and with the approval of the State Council, the State Council Tariff Commission announced that from 12:01 on April 10, 2025, the tariff rate specified in the Announcement of the State Council Tariff Commission on Imposing Additional Tariffs on Imports Originating in the United States (Tariff Commission Announcement No. 4 of 2025) will be adjusted from 34% to 84%. Other matters shall be implemented in accordance with the Announcement No. 4 of 2025 of the Tariff Commission.
China urges the US to immediately correct its wrong practices, cancel all unilateral tariff measures against China, and properly resolve differences with China through equal dialogue on the basis of mutual respect.

The EU’s tariff announcement is more measured from what CNBC reports:
The European Union on Wednesday voted to approve its first set of retaliatory measures to counter tariffs imposed by the U.S. on steel and aluminum.
The European Commission, the bloc’s executive arm, said duties would start being collected on a first tranche of tariffs on U.S. imports from April 15, with a second set of measures following on May 15. According to a draft document seen by CNBC in March, the tariffs target a wide range of goods, including poultry, grains, clothing and metals. The EU has not released a final list of impacted products, and declined to comment further on Wednesday.
CNBC. 04/09/2025.
They quote the European Commission as saying:
The EU considers US tariffs unjustified and damaging, causing economic harm to both sides, as well as the global economy. The EU has stated its clear preference to find negotiated outcomes with the US, which would be balanced and mutually beneficial. These countermeasures can be suspended at any time, should the US agree to a fair and balanced negotiated outcome

Show more =’s “Whose throat do I get to choke if this proves to be wrong?,” Tillis asked U.S. Trade Representative Jamieson Greer during his appearance before the Senate Finance Committee.
I heard this clip yesterday and Tillis isn’t wrong in his frustration but he needs to, like many other Republicans need to, face the facts that the person, the one person that decided on this approach of blanket tariffs was in fact President Fuckstick himself, Donald Trump.
The facing of facts by Republicans isn’t going to happen any time fucking soon…

China’s lack of respect =’s not bending to suck trump cock, sorry, this man has me livid today.
So, because the markets and businesses and families like economic instability he announced…
125 percent tariffs on China, but “conversely” he has out of the goodness of his small brain decided to pause tariffs on the other countries (sort of) for 90 days for “negotiations”…
Everyone still has a 10 percent tariff, I guess, but the point is, he caved.
This tossing everyone under the bus that defended his shitty tariff plan over the weekend and through this morning…

This of course, begs the question I’ve already seen twice in just a few short minutes…
why would any company commit to bringing manufacturing back to America when Trump's tariff policies literally change multiple time a day based on his whims?
— Aaron Rupar (@atrupar) April 9, 2025
Halting the tariffs seems better than going forward with them, but again how on earth are you expecting anyone to invest in any new manufacturing if there’s no telling what policy will be tomorrow?

Meanwhile back at the asylum, our Treasury Secretary is saying this was the plan all along!!!
