Back to Life Back to Reality…
Yesterday, President Stock Manipulator sent shock waves around the world when he announced his intent to “pause for 90 days” tariffs on a bunch of countries.
The market ended on a high.
That high has worn off as reality sets back in (image grabbed at 6:53 AM Cali., time)…

And what is the reality you might ask…
I googled it, because how I understood it yesterday was that all countries aside from China would now have a blanket tariff rate of 10 percent.
I understood correctly as the Guardian explained via a list…
So, here is where we stand today on tariffs rates:
- All countries announced on “Liberation Day” including the Penguins 10 percent.
- China 125 percent.
CNBC News is reporting that the Chinese Tariffs will be 145 percent:
The U.S. tariff rate on Chinese imports now effectively totals 145%, a White House official confirmed to CNBC.
Trump’s latest executive order hikes tariffs on Beijing to 125% from 84%.
But that comes on top of a 20% fentanyl-related tariff that Trump previously imposed on China.
CNBC News. 04/10/2025.
- Cars & Auto Parts (minus some connected to the USMCA) 25 percent.
- Steel and Aluminum 25 percent.
In related news, the BLS, released the CPI this morning.
We now turn to Ben Casselman via Bluesky for charts…
Not doing a full-blown CPI thread today (because so much news), but a few quick ones. First: Consumer prices fell 0.1 percent in March, the first monthly decline since 2024 (unrounded) or 2020 (rounded). #NumbersDay

Inflation also cooled on a 3-month and 12-month basis, in both headline and core. Although I'm not sure this would be enough to entirely erase the "stalling progress" fears even if it weren't for tariffs.

Speaking of tariffs! We aren't really seeing any obvious signs of tariffs showing up in the data so far. Goods prices were actually down in March. But of course this data preceded "Liberation Day."

Notably, though, grocery prices picked back up in March and are no longer running below overall inflation. And eggs prices set another record.

This is an FYI from me…
Inflation is down, jobs are up, and the Golden Age of America is underway. President Trump continues to undo the damage done by Joe Biden, and core inflation declined for the second month in row – great news for American families and businesses.

Excluding the volatile food and energy categories, core prices rose 2.8% compared with a year ago, down from 3.1% in February. That is the smallest increase in core prices in nearly four years. Economists closely watch core prices because they are considered a better guide to where inflation is headed.
Yet economists warned that the data is mostly backward-looking and likely to be overtaken by the impact of the tariffs that Trump has left in place, including huge duties on China, even after the 90-day pause of some tariffs announced Wednesday. Inflation should start to pick up in two to three months’ time and possibly remain elevated through at least the end of this year.
[snip]
One reason prices fell was sharp drops in travel-related costs, including air fares, which slipped 5.3% just from February to March. Hotel room prices dropped 3.5%. Economists said those drops in part reflected much slower international demand as the number of tourists visiting the United States has fallen sharply amid Trump’s aggressive trade policy.
Visits to the United States from overseas fell nearly 12% last month, according to government data.
The cost of groceries, however, jumped 0.5% last month, the report showed, as egg prices leapt 5.9% to a new record average price of $6.23 a dozen. Clothing prices rose 0.4%, though they have increased little in the past year.

Last week, Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell said that the central bank was likely to keep its key interest rate unchanged at about 4.3% as it waited to see how Trump’s policies impacted the economy. Trump called for the Fed to cut rates on Friday.
“There’s a lot of waiting and seeing going on, including by us,” Powell said. “And that just seems like the right thing to do in this period of uncertainty.”

- Taylor published a book under the pseudonym “Anonymous,” full of falsehoods and fabricated stories.
- Taylor disclosed sensitive information obtained through unauthorized methods and betrayed the confidence of those with whom he served.
- Taylor relied upon various colleagues to facilitate his unethical laundering and release of sensitive government data to advance his false narratives.
DRAINING THE SWAMP: President Trump is delivering on his promise to drain the swamp by rooting out inefficiency, corruption, and disloyalty.
- President Trump already suspended the security clearances held by numerous other individuals who have engaged in conduct detrimental to American interests.
- He is ensuring taxpayer funds do not go to anti-American activists and is declassifying records related to alleged government misconduct, providing transparency to the public.
- The Trump Administration is aggressively investigating Biden-era programs that wasted billions of taxpayer dollars on inefficient and politically-driven projects, including canceling unnecessary government contracts and grants that do not serve the national interest.
- President Trump is restoring trust in government by prioritizing loyalty to the Constitution and the American people over entrenched bureaucratic interests.

Addressing Risks from Chris Krebs and Government Censorship (memorandum):
The Federal Government has a constitutional duty and a moral responsibility to respect and promote the free speech rights of Americans. Yet in recent years, elitist leaders in Government have unlawfully censored speech and weaponized their undeserved influence to silence perceived political opponents and advance their preferred, and often erroneous, narrative about significant matters of public debate. These disgraceful actions have taken the form of coercive threats against the private sector — including major social media platforms — to suppress conservative or dissenting voices and distort public opinion. Much of this censorship took place during a Presidential election with the apparent purpose of undermining the free exchange of ideas and debate.
Christopher Krebs, the former head of the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA), is a significant bad-faith actor who weaponized and abused his Government authority. Krebs’ misconduct involved the censorship of disfavored speech implicating the 2020 election and COVID-19 pandemic. CISA, under Krebs’ leadership, suppressed conservative viewpoints under the guise of combatting supposed disinformation, and recruited and coerced major social media platforms to further its partisan mission. CISA covertly worked to blind the American public to the controversy surrounding Hunter Biden’s laptop. Krebs, through CISA, promoted the censorship of election information, including known risks associated with certain voting practices. Similarly, Krebs, through CISA, falsely and baselessly denied that the 2020 election was rigged and stolen, including by inappropriately and categorically dismissing widespread election malfeasance and serious vulnerabilities with voting machines. Krebs skewed the bona fide debate about COVID-19 by attempting to discredit widely shared views that ran contrary to CISA’s favored perspective.
Abusive conduct of this sort both violates the First Amendment and erodes trust in Government, thus undermining the strength of our democracy itself. Those who engage in or support such conduct must not have continued access to our Nation’s secrets. Accordingly, I hereby direct the heads of executive department and agencies (agencies) to immediately take steps consistent with existing law to revoke any active security clearance held by Christopher Krebs.
I further direct the Attorney General, the Director of National Intelligence, and all other relevant agencies to immediately take all action as necessary and consistent with existing law to suspend any active security clearances held by individuals at entities associated with Krebs, including SentinelOne, pending a review of whether such clearances are consistent with the national interest.
I further direct the Attorney General and the Secretary of Homeland Security, in consultation with any other agency head, to take all appropriate action to review Krebs’ activities as a Government employee, including his leadership of CISA. This review should identify any instances where Krebs’ conduct appears to have been contrary to suitability standards for Federal employees, involved the unauthorized dissemination of classified information, or contrary to the purposes and policies identified in Executive Order 14149 of January 20, 2025 (Restoring Freedom of Speech and Ending Federal Censorship). As part of that review, I direct a comprehensive evaluation of all of CISA’s activities over the last 6 years, focusing specifically on any instances where CISA’s conduct appears to have been contrary to the purposes and policies identified in Executive Order 14149. Upon completing these reviews, the Attorney General and the Secretary of Homeland Security shall prepare a joint report to be submitted to the President, through the Counsel to the President, with recommendations for appropriate remedial or preventative actions to be taken to fulfill the purposes and policies of Executive Order 14149.
This memorandum is not intended to, and does not, create any right or benefit, substantive or procedural, enforceable at law or in equity by any party against the United States, its departments, agencies, or entities, its officers, employees, or agents, or any other person.
