The “sports” announcement…

D.C. will host the NFL draft in the spring of 2027, two people familiar with the planning said Sunday night.

The draft is expected to be held on the National Mall, according to those people, who spoke on the condition of anonymity because the decision had not yet been made public. The official announcement is scheduled to be made Monday at the White House. President Donald Trump’s public schedule for Monday includes a “sports announcement” at 1 p.m.

The 2027 draft is the next available one; the NFL previously awarded the 2026 draft to Pittsburgh.

What’s not happening in Congress today…

I had no memory of this being a thing. So, me and my coffee went to google.

I discovered that in 2018 as part of the John S. McCain National Defense Authorization Act for fiscal year 2019, Congress at that time passed the “Anti-Boycott Act of 2018” (you can find the Act at pg. 599 of the pdf…

Snips from the 2018 law:

[snip]

The current bill, H.R. 867 would expand that existing law…

Summary:

This bill expands an existing anti-boycott law to include certain boycotts imposed by international governmental organizations (IGOs).

Current law prohibits various actions by U.S. persons (individuals or entities) in relation to boycotts imposed by foreign governments on a country which is friendly to the United States and that is not itself the object of a U.S. boycott. This bill applies those prohibitions to similar boycotts imposed by IGOs.

Prohibited actions include (1) refusing to do business with companies organized under the laws of the boycotted country, if the refusal is pursuant to an agreement with or request from the country or IGO imposing the boycott; (2) refusing to employ any U.S. person on the basis of race, religion, sex, or national origin; and (3) furnishing information about whether someone is associated with charitable or fraternal organizations that support the boycotted country.

The bill also requires the President to annually submit to Congress and make available to the public a report describing these boycotts and listing the foreign countries and international organizations involved in fostering or imposing them.

H.R. 867. Introduced on 01/31/2025.

MTG said she was voting “NO” on the bill…

Show more =’s But what I don’t understand is why we are voting on a bill on behalf of other countries and not the President’s executive orders that are FOR OUR COUNTRY???

It’s a cult…

President Shitshow took to “Lies Social” to announce that he has no fucking clue how shit works. I know must’ve been a day ending in “Y”…

And this one…

He told reporters that he wants to open it back up as a “symbol of law and order”.

He starts his answer talking about immigrants and how “radicalized judges” want all those people inside the country “illegal” to have trials. Which would mean there would be “millions of trials”.

Yeah, how dare judges demand that the government honor the Constitution.

Speaking of the Constitution, President Shitshow in a taped interview with Meet the Press said he “don’t know” if he needs to uphold the Constitution.

Let’s help him out…

What is the presidential oath of office?

The vice-president-elect is sworn in first and repeats the same oath of office, in use since 1884, as senators, representatives, and other federal employees:

“I do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic; that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same; that I take this obligation freely, without any mental reservation or purpose of evasion; and that I will well and faithfully discharge the duties of the office on which I am about to enter: So help me God.”

USA.gov.

Around noon, the president-elect recites the following oath in accordance with Article II, Section I of the U.S. Constitution:

“I do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will faithfully execute the Office of President of the United States, and will to the best of my ability, preserve, protect and defend the Constitution of the United States.

Back to reopening a prison that has been shutdown since March 1963…

I will admit, I did get a bit lost among the googling here.

But I won’t bore you with too many details…

I found this at the Federal Bureau of Prisons (BOP); I had thought it shutdown in the 1970’s…

On March 21, 1963, USP Alcatraz closed after 29 years of operation. It did not close because of the disappearance of Morris and the Anglins (the decision to close the prison was made long before the three disappeared), but because the institution was too expensive to continue operating. An estimated $3-5 million was needed just for restoration and maintenance work to keep the prison open. That figure did not include daily operating costs – Alcatraz was nearly three times more expensive to operate than any other Federal prison (in 1959 the daily per capita cost at Alcatraz was $10.10 compared with $3.00 at USP Atlanta). The major expense was caused by the physical isolation of the island – the exact reason islands have been used as prisons throughout history. This isolation meant that everything (food, supplies, water, fuel…) had to be brought to Alcatraz by boat. For example, the island had no source of fresh water, so nearly one million gallons of water had to be barged to the island each week. The Federal Government found that it was more cost-effective to build a new institution than to keep Alcatraz open.

BOP.gov.

I was curious how many inmates did Alcatraz hold over the 29 years of operation. I found a list from Archives.gov: according to the list they recorded 1576 inmates. You can search the list by name or by the numbers.

Cult member Markwayne Mullin aka a member of Congress defended the idea…

About Rikers…

Another Rep weighed-in…

Sticking with the cult theme, President Fucking Moron that doesn’t want people to have joy in their lives also posted to “Lies Social” that he wants to tariff at 100 percent “movies” coming from foreign countries…

Nutlick aka Howard Lutnick said…

When he talked to reporters he said “it’s sort of a threat to our country in a sense” when asked about tariffs on movies made outside the US…

An economist says…

Tariffs are truly a horrible policy.

Lenny shared this joke with me in DM’s…

It did make me laugh and as I have been trying to remember “joy” is a form of resistance.

Breaking news…

My favorite former immigration lawyer Aaron has thoughts…

He’s posted other things, but I’m just gonna leave this one here…
