Second Feature: Green Acres: S2 E7 – The Good Old Days
Lisa is curious to learn about the book that Oliver is reading. Oliver, excited to take advantage of an opportunity to share his own farming fantasy, describes the real-life story of pioneers Gus and Etta Thompson, who settled outside of Kansas City in 1887. Together, the husband and wife worked land into a thriving farm. The episode flashes back to the 19th century with Oliver appearing at Gus and Lisa as Etta. Etta has just arrived via stagecoach from the old country in lieu of her sister Gladys whom Gus was expecting instead. Nevertheless, Etta is determined to marry this stranger and properly settle in her new home. Together, they learn to manage and work the land and soon fall in love, having 25 children and living until a ripe old age. Back in the present, Oliver wonders if his description has convinced Lisa to embrace farm life here on Green Acres.
