Number 13 turns up the heat with Flashdance (1983). This was one of those movies where the soundtrack became just as iconic as the film itself — maybe even more so. I didn’t need a welding torch or a dance audition to feel like I was part of it; all it took was turning up the volume and letting Irene Cara’s Flashdance… What a Feeling blast through the speakers.
This soundtrack also has a special place in my story because it was one my mom actually bought for me. She was never much of a music lover, but she loved this one — and it became our go-to cleaning-the-house album. Nothing like dusting shelves to Maniac and pretending you’re in a montage.
Like the movie itself, the album is pure fantasy fuel: gritty dream-chasing on the outside, but underneath it’s a sugar rush of pop hooks and synth beats.
I’ll be linking to each soundtrack’s Wikipedia page if you want to dig deeper, rediscover the track listings, or argue with your own memory of what played during that prom scene.
And don’t worry — this won’t be the last time we visit movie soundtracks. 🎶
