We feel the need—the need for speed—with number 21 on the list: Top Gun. This is the only soundtrack in my countdown from a movie I didn’t see in theaters. Instead, I was at my friend’s house when she discovered, with horror, that I had no idea what Top Gun was. I assured her I knew who Tom Cruise was—I’d already seen Risky Business and All the Right Moves on the big screen—but apparently that didn’t count. She announced that nothing else would happen until I stopped being a “heathen” (her word, not mine) and watched the movie.
The verdict? The movie was everything she promised: sweet, sassy, and all things classy (hey, we were 15). Within two weekends, I was at the Music Warehouse, proudly buying my own copy of the soundtrack—and cranking Danger Zone loud enough to rattle the walls.
I’ll be linking to each soundtrack’s Wikipedia page if you want to dig deeper, rediscover the track listings, or argue with your own memory of what played during that prom scene.
And don’t worry — this won’t be the last time we visit movie soundtracks. 🎶
