Number 19 on the list takes me back to the movies with my best friend from high school for a story that made us laugh, cry, and then cry some more — Beaches. Bette Midler and Barbara Hershey brought the ultimate tale of friendship to life, and by the end we were clutching our popcorn tubs like tissues. The soundtrack was everywhere — “Wind Beneath My Wings” became the song for graduations, weddings, and every sentimental moment in between — but it also had lighter moments. There was Bette’s playful cover of “Under the Boardwalk,” and of course the gloriously silly “Otto Titsling,” a song about the (alleged) inventor of the brassiere that made teenage me giggle like I was getting away with something. It’s a soundtrack that swings from heartbreak to hilarity — just like life with your best friend.
I’ll be linking to each soundtrack’s Wikipedia page if you want to dig deeper, rediscover the track listings, or argue with your own memory of what played during that prom scene.
And don’t worry — this won’t be the last time we visit movie soundtracks. 🎶
