Speculation regrading the “announcement”…
Trump will announce an executive order to unconstitutionally rename the Department of Defense as the Department of War. Because nothing says “peace through strength” like branding it after the thing you’re supposedly trying to avoid.
There's speculation at the Pentagon and elsewhere that President Trump this afternoon will announce that the Department of Defense is going to revert back to being the Department of War (created in 1789 and dissolved in 1947).

Grok is speculating, based on Trump’s recent Lies Social posts, that the “announcement” could be about sending the National Guard to Chicago. Because nothing screams “law and order” like using troops as political props.

Speaking of the National Guard and military troops…

The injunction is narrow.
* Trump doesn't have to withdraw the 300 National Guard troops currently on the ground in LA.
* Those troops can, for example, protect federal property consistent with the Posse Comitatus Act.
* The order is limited to California. pic.twitter.com/JwsMD4ugE2
Judge Breyer on Task Force 51, which commands the troops in LA:

"The record is replete with evidence that Task Force 51 executed domestic law in these prohibited ways," and their conduct "clearly qualifies as Posse Comitatus Act violations." pic.twitter.com/otNGCbk7xK
From the ruling:

Task Force 51 training materials contained instructions on what the Posse Comitatus Act barred the military from doing.
The red lines supposedly qualified for "constitutional exceptions" to the Act, which the judge just rejected. pic.twitter.com/krEboqTyQ6
Chicago isn’t the only blue city President Pale has threatened to send in the guard…
If Donald Trump dares to send the National Guard to Baltimore, this is going to happen again. Unconstitutional actions will be shot down by the courts every single time. Maryland will be no different. https://t.co/5Z0GLPzmWl

MAGA is coping as you’d expect.
Completely to the contrary; the judge ruled that the president must follow the laws that Congress passed regulating how the military may be used. https://t.co/PHnk5ktzXF

Another guess? An EO to force voter IDs nationwide and kill off mail-in ballots—unless you’re “Very Ill” or in “The Far Away Military.” Because why let Congress or the Constitution get in the way of a good power grab?

This rumor comes from Trump’s ongoing grudge over the Biden administration reversing his push to relocate Space Command. The fight has been wrapped up in politics for years, with Alabama Republicans cheering the move and Colorado leaders (and the military) arguing the headquarters belongs where it already is.
WASHINGTON, Sept 2 (Reuters) – The Trump administration is planning to announce as early as Tuesday that it will relocate U.S. Space Command headquarters from Colorado Springs, Colorado, to Huntsville, Alabama, according to a U.S. official and a person familiar with the…

Show more =’s according to a U.S. official and a person familiar with the deliberations via @MichaelStone The decision would reverse a move made under President Joe Biden’s administration, which had selected Colorado Springs as the permanent home for the military’s newest combatant command in 2023.
Press barbie told CNN’s Live Updates thread that “the president will be making an exciting announcement related to the Department of Defense,” Leavitt said.
