Petty Attacks Americans

The Winter Olympics are underway in Milan, and on February 6, Team USA freestyle skiers Chris Lillis and Hunter Hess made headlines for comments during a press conference. For reasons that feel selective at best, most of the backlash has focused on Hess, with critics branding him “un-American,” even though both athletes said roughly the same thing.

What Petty said:

The text:

U.S. Olympic Skier, Hunter Hess, a real Loser, says he doesn’t represent his Country in the current Winter Olympics. If that’s the case, he shouldn’t have tried out for the Team, and it’s too bad he’s on it. Very hard to root for someone like this. MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!

Fuck all the way off. 02/08/2026.

What the skiers said:

Chris Lillis:

I feel heartbroken about what’s happened in the United States. I’m pretty sure you’re referencing ICE and some of the protests and things like that. I think that as a country, we need to focus on respecting everybody’s rights and making sure that we’re treating our citizens, as well as anybody else, with love and respect. And I hope that when people look at athletes compete in the Olympics, they realize that that’s the America that we’re trying to represent.

Hunter Hess:

It brings up mixed emotions to represent the U.S. right now. I think it’s a little hard. There’s obviously a lot going on that I’m not the biggest fan of, and I think a lot of people feel the same way.

[For me, it’s more about representing my friends and family back home, the people who came before me, and the things I believe are good about the U.S.] If it aligns with my moral values, I feel like I’m representing it. Just because I’m wearing the flag doesn’t mean I represent everything that’s going on in the country. I just want to do it for my friends, my family, and the people who supported me getting here.

Yeah, it’s totally hard to “root” for people that express themselves like they did.

Because Of Course He Hated the Super Bowl Halftime Show

The text:

The Super Bowl Halftime Show is absolutely terrible, one of the worst, EVER! It makes no sense, is an affront to the Greatness of America, and doesn’t represent our standards of Success, Creativity, or Excellence. Nobody understands a word this guy is saying, and the dancing is disgusting, especially for young children that are watching from throughout the U.S.A., and all over the World. This “Show” is just a “slap in the face” to our Country, which is setting new standards and records every single day — including the Best Stock Market and 401(k)s in History! There is nothing inspirational about this mess of a Halftime Show and watch, it will get great reviews from the Fake News Media, because they haven’t got a clue of what is going on in the REAL WORLD — And, by the way, the NFL should immediately replace its ridiculous new Kickoff Rule. MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN! President DONALD J. TRUMP

Petty man skipped the TPUSA Halftime show to be able to bash American Citizen Bad Bunny. 02/08/2026.

I actually enjoyed the halftime show. I’m linking the full broadcast here since copyright rules won’t let me embed it.

I didn’t understand a single word Bad Bunny said, but I understood the meaning just fine.

Lady Gaga even joined him as a wedding singer, and it turns out the wedding was real.

I still can’t find a clean clip of the bride and groom before the Lady Gaga reveal. Sigh.

One of the genuinely sweet moments: Bad Bunny hands his week-old Grammy to a little boy.

Many social media users claimed the child in the segment was Liam Conejo Ramos, the 5-year-old who was detained by ICE. It wasn’t Ramos. It was child actor Lincoln Fox.

It’s since been confirmed that Lincoln Fox was simply playing a young Bad Bunny. Still, it’s hard not to read it as a quiet nod to Liam.

It reminded me of a song by Deana Carter.

The chorus of the song:

We were so in love, we were so in love And the band play songs that we had never heard
But we danced anyway
We never understood the words
We just sang oh
La-la-la-la-la-la-la
And we danced anyway

That’s how I’ll remember Bad Bunny’s halftime show. I didn’t understand the words, but I danced anyway.

In the end, the message was simple.

And just to cap the whole weekend, the Super Bowl champions are the Seattle Seahawks — they beat the New England Patriots 29-13 in Super Bowl LX, earning their second Lombardi Trophy. No matter how you felt about the halftime show or the internet drama, the Seahawks’ win reminded everyone why we tune in to the big game in the first place: competition, storylines, and moments you really can’t script.
