March is Women’s History Month, and it felt like the right time to shift our focus slightly.
All month long, Night Owl is spotlighting the songwriters — the architects behind the hooks, the phrasing, the lines that stayed with you long after the radio faded out. Some of them stood at the microphone. Many didn’t. What they share is the pen.
We begin with one of the most iconic songwriting partnerships of the 20th century: Burt Bacharach and Hal David.
Bacharach composed the melodies — elegant, unexpected, harmonically rich. Hal David wrote the lyrics — conversational, precise, emotionally direct. Together, they shaped a catalog that still feels sophisticated without feeling distant.
