Number 18 drifts in like a love letter on the radio waves with Sleepless in Seattle (1993). I first saw it in the theater, back when a Nora Ephron rom-com was basically an automatic girls’ night out. The movie is pure “will they/won’t they” magic, with Tom Hanks on one coast, Meg Ryan on the other, and destiny working overtime. The soundtrack plays like a greatest-hits mixtape of romance itself—Nat King Cole, Jimmy Durante, Carly Simon, and yes, even Celine Dion—each song timed to make your heart swell right on cue. And before anyone says it—yes, I already have When Harry Met Sally higher on the list, because when it comes to Meg Ryan and movie music, you can’t have just one.
I’ll be linking to each soundtrack’s Wikipedia page if you want to dig deeper, rediscover the track listings, or argue with your own memory of what played during that prom scene.
And don’t worry — this won’t be the last time we visit movie soundtracks. 🎶
