TNB Night Owl: My Top 31 Soundtrack Movie Countdown!

Number 11 is all about rhythm, blues, and a whole lot of borrowed vinyl: The Blues Brothers (1980). Technically, I didn’t own this soundtrack — it was my brother’s. But let’s just say it “lived” in my room more than it did his, because I borrowed it a lot. (He might call it stealing. I call it appreciating.)

The movie itself was pure chaos in the best way — car chases, comedy, and cameos from some of the greatest names in music. The soundtrack captures that magic: Aretha Franklin demanding Respect, Ray Charles making us all want to Shake a Tail Feather, and Cab Calloway proving Minnie the Moocher never goes out of style. And of course, John Belushi and Dan Aykroyd as Jake and Elwood made the blues cool again for a whole new generation.

This wasn’t just a soundtrack — it was a crash course in American music history. And thanks to my brother’s copy (which I never technically gave back), I got my education early.

I’ll be linking to each soundtrack’s Wikipedia page if you want to dig deeper, rediscover the track listings, or argue with your own memory of what played during that prom scene.

And don’t worry — this won’t be the last time we visit movie soundtracks. 🎶
