Number 9 is American Graffiti (1973). I honestly don’t know how I ended up with this soundtrack, and I can’t even remember if we saw the movie at the drive-in or in a theater. But I absolutely remember the songs. All 41 of them made the rounds—whether on the record at home or coming through the “oldies but goodies” station my dad would tune in sometimes. The soundtrack was basically wall-to-wall jukebox classics, everything from Buddy Holly to The Platters to Bill Haley. And holding it all together was Wolfman Jack, whose legendary voice turned the whole thing into a late-night radio party you never wanted to end.
