Second Feature: Green Acres: S2 E21 – The Computer Age

In his endless pursuit of bringing city efficiency and know-how to rural tradition, Oliver champions agri-tech as way to increase productivity on the farm. Of course, computers are not very convenient in the age of Green Acres. The episode features a room-sized computer of the kind that proliferated TV sitcoms in the days before pocket calculators and PCs. A desperate Ralph Monroe joins a computer dating service to meet a husband, and Oliver thinks it’s a great idea since computers are always right. Lisa thinks they can’t possibly take the place of romance, so she challenges Oliver to test their match-up on the electric brain. The computer assesses their marriage — and arrives at the conclusion that the couple is not in any way compatible. Taking these results to heart, Lisa begins to question the durability of her union with Oliver… and we all know what happens when Lisa begins to question anything.
