We’re doing things a little sideways today. Trump is off having a Very Important Meeting with the Crown Prince and Prime Minister of Saudi Arabia, which will no doubt generate its usual quota of diplomatic fan fiction and reality-optional bragging. I’ll deal with that circus tomorrow when the dust and the nonsense settle.

Today we’re zeroing in on something a lot more concrete: the push to release the Epstein files. There’s been a fresh round of chest-thumping, denial, and accidental honesty, and it deserves its own spotlight without the Saudi photo-op drama getting in the way.

#EpsteinFileGate

Ahead of the anticipated House vote on releasing the DOJ’s Epstein files, survivors held a press conference urging lawmakers to do the right thing and release the damn files.

She calls out President Predator’s whiplash reversal on releasing the Epstein files, then turns straight to Congress with a message they can’t pretend they didn’t hear: choose the survivors, stop stalling, and vote to release the files.

A survivor who voted for President 47 pleads with him to start acting like “our” President, and she doesn’t sugarcoat it. She calls his handling of this issue a national embarrassment.

"We are hearing the administration say they intend to investigate various Dems who were friends with Epstein. I beg you President Trump — please stop making this political. It is not about you. Show some class. I voted for you, but your behavior on this issue has been a national embarrassment."

Another survivor steps up and reminds everyone this isn’t “just one case” but a historic failure stretched across five administrations. She says every member of Congress and everyone in this administration has to answer for that failure, no more dodging and no more pretending it’s ancient history.

Epstein survivor: "Today we stand in a moment that will decide whether our government still belongs to the American people or to those who prey on them."

Virginia Giuffre’s brother spoke on her behalf.

“ At just 16 years old, she took a job at Mar a Lago, believing she had secured a dream summer position. But that dream quickly morphed into a nightmare when Ghislaine Maxwell preyed upon her…. They trafficked her”

Another survivor also calls out past admins for failing the survivors.

“Under Trump's second presidency, the DOJ announced they were closing the investigation into Epstein's coconspirators and then transferred Ghislaine Maxwell into a prison camp, where it's well documented that she is receiving special treatment.”

The full presser:

Speaker of the House Mike “I have no Johnson and live in the land of denial” Johnson held his own daily presser.

Prior to his presser a sign was placed. Due to the cloudfare issues I’m unable to embed tweets and did not find this image on bluesky.

The fix is in.

Mike Johnson says he's talked to Thune & he's "very confident that when this moves forward in the process – if & when it is processed in the Senate, which is no certainty – they will take the time methodically to do what we have not been allowed to do in the House. To amend this discharge petition."

A reporter called him out for misrepresenting the contents of the bill that will be voted on some time today.

Q: I'm confused because the bill specifically says 'the AG may withhold or redact portions related to child sex abuse materials.' The survivors are comfortable with that. These things are actually in this bill. JOHNSON: They're not Q: It's up to the AG J: No it's not! We're not making this up

He says page 5 of HRS 581; I found HRS 581, says this; ‘(B) depicts or contains child sexual abuse materials (CSAM) as defined under 18 U.S.C. 2256

He then says we go to statute 18 U.S.C. 2256 and no where does it define what child sexual abuse material is. He then smugly adds “go look it up”, so of course I did.

I’m going out on a limb and saying I’m pretty sure I understand what consists child sexual abuse materials.

But wait, there’s more.

Mike “I’m a bastard” Johnson left out two statutes that is also cited on page 5 of the bill he told us to “go look up”.

18 U.S.C. 2252; Certain activities relating to material involving the sexual exploitation of minors

18 U.S. Code § 2252A – Certain activities relating to material constituting or containing child pornography:

Again, going out on the limb, pretty sure, I a non-lawyer understand that the bill gives the ability to the Attorney General to redact any child sexual abuse material as they see fit.

As I said the fix is in, but Johnson lying like he did this am deserved to be called out.

The House is meeting on the floor now.
