The Staple Singers
If Week 2 had a group hug moment, it’s this one.
The Staple Singers sounded like church and front porch and marching together all at once.
Gospel roots. Soul grooves. Songs built for crowds.
They didn’t just soundtrack the movement. They showed up for it. Freedom rides. Benefit concerts. Community organizing.
Their records feel communal. Like everyone’s supposed to sing along.
Which, honestly, might be the whole point.
