President Trump suggested that the women who accused Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh of sexual misconduct during his confirmation process were lying at a rally in Belgrade, Montana, on Saturday afternoon.

The president’s comments came after Judiciary Committee Chairman Chuck Grassley released a letter stating that one of Kavanaugh’s accusers, Judy Munro-Leighton, recanted her claim that she had been raped by Kavanaugh and his friend after being questioned by Committee investigators. Grassley has referred Munro-Leighton to the FBI for investigation.

“It was a lie. It was a total lie. It was fake. About rape, she lied. And we’re supposed to sit back and take it,” he said during the rally for Senate candidate Matt Rosendale, who is challenging Jon Tester. “What about the others? When are they going to say what happened?” he asked, referencing other women who accused Kavanaugh of sexual misconduct while he was a student at Georgetown Prep and Yale.

One of Kavanaugh’s accusers, Dr. Christine Blasey Ford, testified before the Senate Judiciary Committee about her allegations in late September. None of the other women who came forward to accuse Kavanaugh of sexual misconduct have recanted their stories.
