The news these days is often depressing at worst and frustrating at best. It’s easy to get caught up in the spin cycle and let it get us down. Never fear… The News Blender has you covered. Once a week, we feature Something Good and, in return, all you have to do is tell us something good that has happened to you this week, something you are thankful for, a joke, a cute animal story, an inspiring tale of heroics, a Random Act of Kindness… SOMETHING good.

This week’s something good is community, friendship, and going the extra mile.

Samantha Savitz, a 2-year old resident of Newton, Massachusetts, has stolen the hearts of her neighbors. Samantha is a very friendly little girl who happens to be deaf. When she goes out in her neighborhood, she tries to chat with her neighbors in the only way she can: by using sign language. But her neighbors couldn’t talk to her because they didn’t know sign language.

So, in a move than shocked Samantha’s grateful parents, the residents of Newton hired a sign language instructor and are learning to communicate in American Sign Language.

Samantha is thrilled that her friends can now talk to her and her parents say she is blooming with her new ability to communicate with her neighbors. That is Something Good.

Now it’s your turn… Tell me something good.
