It’s Tuesday.

Day 42 of the Impeachment Inquiry is here as is #ElectionDay 2019.

Also happening in DC this Tuesday morning.

President Trump retweeted one of his weekend tweets regarding Virginia’s upcoming election.

As the News Blender featured last night, President Trump held a campaign rally from Lexington, Kentucky, on Monday.

The New York Times has a guide to what elections are being held this Election Day. In one section regarding Kentucky they report that if current Governor Matt Bevin, a unpopular Republican Governor, wins a second term, it will be the first time in that state’s history a Republican has won a second term.

The question they say in Kentucky is, who is less popular, the person Matt Bevin, or is it the Democrat party platform?

As the New York Times guide points out Tuesday’s election results are the first test of both President Trump and the Democrats.

Tuesday’s election results will offer insights on two crucial political dynamics heading into the 2020 campaign: the depth of President Trump’s appeal with Republicans and how fully suburban voters have swung to the Democrats.

The Other Tweets.

NBC News reported on Tuesday that at least 9 U.S. citizens, six of them were children were killed in an “apparent ambush on a highway in the Mexican border state of Sonora, according to relatives of the victims and local media reports.”

Family member Kendra Lee Miller said that 8 children survived, some seriously wounded, “including a 9-month-old who was shot in the chest and a 4-year-old shot in the back.”

NBC News spoke by phone to Willie Jessop, a relative of one of the victims that the “attack occurred on a motorcade consisting of several families, and that survivors at the scene told him that three cars were shot at and one was set on fire.”

Jessop said he is in contact with Mexican federal officials and the FBI.

The Washington Post reported that the one of the vehicles driven by Maria Ronita LeBaron, had a flat tire, the others in the motorcade turned back to get help. LeBaron’s car was ambushed, as were the other two cars upon their return.

The LeBaron’s describe themselves as Mormons, but are part of a polygamous offshoot of the Church. The LeBaron family moved to Mexico in 1924, where they lived for decades, but their wealth made them a target as the Post explains:

But their relative wealth made them targets of extortion and kidnapping when organized-crime groups began to assert themselves in northern Mexico. In 2009, a prominent member of the clan, Benjamin LeBaron, 31, was shot dead near his community in northern Mexico. He had publicly denounced the drug traffickers, who had earlier abducted his younger brother, demanding a $1 million ransom. (The family refused to pay). The killers left a message saying they were retaliating for LeBaron’s activism.

According to many sources, it’s unclear at this time, if the family was the target or if the Mexican gang, mistook the cars for a rival gang.

According to the Post article the Mexican President Andrés Manuel López Obrador, thanked President Trump for his offer of help, but said “Mexico would act with “independence and sovereignty” in pursuing the criminals behind the attack.”

CNN reported that New York Police Department Commissioner James O’Neill was resigning from his post and will head to the private sector.

O’Neill had been Commissioner since September 2016, NYPD Chief of Detectives Demort Shea a 28-year veteran of the force will replace O’Neill.

His resignation follows just months after the Commissioner fired Daniel Pantaleo, the officer accused of fatally choking Eric Garner.

The New York Post reported that some 900 inmates could be released following the passage of a law that eliminates bail for defendants charged with an “array of misdemeanors and felony crimes.”

Following up the Sunday story the New York Post explains that Governor Cuomo’s spokesman Jason Conwall said, “We have no knowledge of either OCA or the city’s plan regarding early releases in their local jail system. The legislature passed, and the governor signed, landmark criminal-justice reforms last year, and we expect them to be implemented appropriately and effectively.”
