Coffee Talk with Tiff for Saturday’s Open Thread

Coffee. Photo by Jonathan Thursfield.

It’s Saturday.

I won’t lie, seeing the drummer with both arms was weird.

For this Saturday, I’d like to talk about my mental health. I’m burnt out guys, is the long and short of my “mental health”. It’s been a long hot ass summer…

I don’t have all my computer stuff, cause it’s hot outside, I don’t have a real routine anymore save trying to stay cool, keep the pets cool, and keep the pool from going green or heating up some much, I’m better off taking a bath than swimming.

Such is life in the California valley, but this years summer heat has been relentless and unforgiving.

So, I’ll be brief today, well, not really, I’m also a chatty Cathy, that misses commenting after my post is done, because, commenting from my iPad or iPhone is frustrating. I’d like to pause here a give a big shout out for Richard who types all his thoughtful posts, via a device and not a PC.

Anyhoo, before we continue with the randomness, my brunt-outness, is not at all a reflection on you guys, my ego does not need stroked, my brain is just tired, cause it’s hot, and not like last summer hot, a different kind of heat that’s changed how I lived last summer.

This morning, my first cup of coffee I stumbled blurry-eyed to my PC, the little windows 10 machine that could, mostly survive the heat, fired her up and logged-in.

I found this from Demo…

Now, since I’m a bit brunt-out and I saw it with my first cup-coffee, I skimmed it, and totally did not follow the link…until I found it in my Twitter notifications.

And to be fair, I didn’t even connect the two until I stumbled to the fifth paragraph…

To be clear, showing empathy with voters on the other side is of course something we should generally strive for. And there are surely ways to appeal to voters with doubts about 2020 or vaccines that are more constructive than others.

Washington Post Opinion. 07/23/2021

I’m going out on a limb, and saying the above opinion piece was published as an alternative to this opinion piece published on July, 22nd, 2021.

When supporters of former president Donald Trump hear media pundits analyze them with the usual collection of belittling observations, they must be tempted to respond, “Hey, we’re right here! We can hear you!”

Yes, they are indeed here, and living among us. And they have every right to be insulted by being accused of believing a “big lie,” and by the implication that they are violent, or traitors, or mindless sheep — racist sheep, of course. They’re fed up not just with the overt insults, but also with more subtle digs, such as former defense secretary Leon Panetta saying last week that he worries that Trump “will continue to try to somehow sway his followers” to attempt another Jan. 6-style uprising. Followers? No one refers to President Biden’s “followers.” It’s a word generally reserved for adherents of cult figures.

Now, we aren’t spending a lot of time here at this opinion because honestly, it’s a crap opinion, he’s basically saying, that truth, matters zero, they do believe a big lie, that’s fact, we see it in real life, we see it in social media posts.

They believe 100 percent that the 2020 Presidential Election was rigged. And why is that, cause their cult leader tells them so.

I refuse to link to it. It’s from 07/19/2021.

And how do we know that Republicans in positions of power are using that belief to their advantage?

It leads us back to Greg Sargent’s opinion piece first seen posted in the Owl by Demo or D like I like to call him.

Trickery in Texas
In Texas, Republican state legislators are pushing a new bill to require an audit of the 2020 results, one conducted by a third party appointed by top Republicans.

But tellingly, as The Post reports, the audit would be required only for the largest counties — virtually all of which backed President Biden.
This is being justified by the notion that Republican voters no longer “believe in their election system,” as its chief sponsor, Republican state Rep. Steve Toth, put it.

That leads us to the third opinion piece of the day. Lot’s of opinions, not mine, but we will get to that in just another couple of cups of coffee.

[Texas State Rep Steve] Toth’s proposal, though, is accompanied by a very important asterisk: It would only require investigation by counties with more than 415,000 people, as The Washington Post’s Eva Ruth Moravec reported on Thursday. There are 13 such counties in the state, 10 of which voted for President Biden last year. The 13th-most populous county, Cameron County, preferred Biden by a 13-point margin. If you kept going down the ranks of most-populous counties, incidentally, the next five most populous counties all preferred Trump. Convenient place to stop the review!

Washington Post Opinion. 07/23/2021.

We move from Bump’s opinion, so I can quote the linked Washington Post article from July, 22nd, 2021.

Support is growing among Texas Republicans for a push to audit the results of the 2020 election in a state that former president Donald Trump won handily. But the proposal, introduced in the House earlier this month, would only re-examine votes in Texas’s largest counties, most of which went for President Biden.

The legislation, House Bill 241, calls for an independent third party appointed by the state’s top GOP officials to conduct a forensic audit of results in counties with more than 415,000 people. Of the 13 counties that meet that criteria, 10 voted for Biden last year.

The bill’s sponsor, Republican state Rep. Steve Toth, said earlier this week that his constituents are concerned about fraud in the election. In an interview, Toth added that he also became convinced an audit was needed after a meeting earlier this year with U.S. Rep. Pete Sessions (R-Tex.), who claimed to have evidence of vote fraud in a 2018 race that he lost.

But while Toth said he would support a statewide effort, he also argued the undertaking would be too expensive and time-consuming. Asked if he would consider including somesmaller counties, Toth replied, “What’s the point? I mean, all the small counties are red.”

Some experts said Toth’s bill, as written, would probably fail on a technical level in a state where counties use a variety of methods, including paper ballots, preprinted ballots and digital machines.

This leads my brunt-out coffee drinking shrinking mind (lol), to my point. As I’ve said many times before, in the comment section, in 2017 prior to blogging at all, not even once, I was told something very foreshadowing of Impeached Twice 45’s term or at that point what could have been terms…

A poster from TOS (The Other Side) said to me, regarding the Flynn stuff, that something they would never ever and could never ever do, was to be seen as “siding with the Dems”.

For all our talk about how to reach the cult, that issue seems lost in the other more pressing issues like, getting vaccinated against a deadly virus.

But that is for me in real life the bottom line of all my conversations with family over politics.

“You believe the dems?—What are you a Liberal now?–I can’t believe you are siding with the Democrats Socialists!!!!”

So, to conclude the randomness of my “coffee thoughts” *makes note of phrase “coffee thoughts”*, I’m not sure how to combat the siding with the liberals part.

Does it help that R’s in power are coming out and begging the unvaccinated to get vaccinated. Not really.

Now, for us, he’s a scumbag, but for others who most likely are our friends and family, he represents their deep distrust of the government. Which was fueled by Impeached Twice 45 while he was the government.

It’s an irony unmatched…

Personal note, I’m taking tomorrow off. *YAY*…

But because of that something I was going to share in a separate thread as it deserves will be shared here.

Thursday, my friend from Michigan, shared with me the “DEE GEES”, and said, YouTube it. Which I did…

The DEE GEES is a tribute band to the BEE GEES the DEE GEES is also known as, the Foo Fighters…

Right?

I thought the same thing, like what the hell is this. But I clicked play…and yeah, it’s as awesome and silly as it sounds, and brightened by very busy Thursday.

I should also note, that I am a Bee Gee’s fan, and this is not a mocking or poke fun of type Tribute Band. This is the real deal Tribute.

You’re welcome.

HAPPY SATURDAY. See y’all on Monday!

This is an Open Thread.
