This morning as was reported @ The News Blender at 3:25 am Sunday Morning a gunman, now believed to be 29 nine year old Travis Reinking, opened fire at the Waffle House located in Antioch, Tennessee, leaving four dead and four injured. A warrant has been issued for his arrest.
But some good news has emerged, a 29 year old man by the name of James Shaw Jr, is being credited with saving numerous lives when he disarmed the gunman, causing the gunman to flee, the Teenessean. reports,
“I don’t really know, when everyone said that (of being a hero), it feels selfish,” Shaw Jr. “I was just trying to get myself out. I saw the opportunity and pretty much took it.”
Shaw Jr. told the Teenessean that he and some friends had been at a fraternity party prior to heading to a different Waffle House, seeing the crowd the friends decided to travel two miles to the Waffle House on Murfeesboro Road arriving there about 3:20am only minutes before Reinking is suspected of opening fire,
“I remember I was like ‘Dang, I’m basically in a barrel,’ ” Shaw Jr. said. “There is no place for me to go.”
As the suspect came through the door, he needed to reload, Shaw Jr. said. That’s when he said he rushed him.
“When he came in, I distinctively remember thinking that he is going to have to work for this kill,” Shaw Jr. said. “I had a chance to stop him and thankfully I stopped him.”
He added: “I grabbed the gun and kept it down. He had one hand on it. I pulled it away and threw it over the bar.”

James Shaw Jr, received minor injuries from his struggle to disarm the gunman he has been treated and released from a local hospital.
