Monday July 16th, 2018, President Trump and Vladimir Putin meet in Helsinki, Finland. The two are scheduled to meet alone for ninety minutes.
Ambassador to Russia, Jon Huntsman appeared on Meet the Press and downplayed expectations, telling host Chuck Todd, “it isn’t a summit, I’ve heard it called that, but it’s a meeting.” adding that it’s a conversation. He said he hopes it’s a detailed conversation.
Huntsman explains there will be no state dinner, no joint statement.
The “meeting,” comes just a few days after Deputy Attorney Rod Rosenstein announced indictments against 12 Russian nationals, that are military officers, the charges range from identity theft, to money laundering, and also for being responsible for hacking the DNC, and releasing private emails.
President Trump has said the two will discuss election meddling, the Syrian War, and the possibility of limiting our nuclear defense in a peaceful draw down from both countries.
Live feed coverage is set to begin around 3 a.m. eastern time.
