By now, everyone has heard about Trump’s “clarification” of his comments yesterday where he sided with Putin over our own intelligence services. Yes, he actually claimed, over 24 hours later, that he misspoke and said “would” when he meant to say “wouldn’t”. Of course, he had to carefully read this “clarification” from a very carefully crafted prepared written statement. Per a report from CNN,
Top national security officials had huddled in the White House Situation Room on Tuesday to develop a response to the fallout. The meeting resulted in a determination that Trump would need to clarify his remarks. Top officials, including national security adviser John Bolton, were involved in crafting the statement that Trump delivered from the Cabinet Room.
So, yeah…whatever.
One of the more humorous parts of this was that one of the reporters snapped a quick photo of the prepared statement in front of Trump. It seems that Trump added his own text to the statement in big black, bold marker, “THERE WAS NO COLUSION” (yes, he misspelled “collusion”).
When I saw this, and recalled how many times he repeats that “THERE WAS NO COLUSION”, it made me think of President Nixon’s famous statement of, “I am not a crook”.
I think “THERE WAS NO COLUSION” is now Trump’s “I am not a crook” meme.
