To those of you who are too young to remember Watergate, rest assured, this is worse. Trump is a much less competent, much more dangerous, vastly more corrupt president than Nixon. And this time his co-conspirators are the entire GOP leadership of the Congress.

  2. From Reuters:

Chinese buyers of Iranian oil are starting to shift their cargoes to vessels owned by National Iranian Tanker Co (NITC) for nearly all of their imports to keep supply flowing amid the re-imposition of economic sanctions by the United States.

The shift demonstrates that China, Iran’s biggest oil customer, wants to keep buying Iranian crude despite the sanctions, which were put back after the United States withdrew in May from a 2015 agreement to halt Iran’s nuclear program.

This outcome is yet another example of the perils that arise from the combination of hasty ill-conceived decisions over which there was little or no consideration given to various scenarios. The Trump Administration withdrew from the flawed JCPOA without selling its allies on the decision and without a comprehensive strategy for pursuing an alternative course.

  3. Fox “News” Alert!

    Tonight on Hannity!

Trump will be on live and reveal he doesn’t know and has never met Don McGahn. Also appearing is Alan Dershowitz, who will show McGahn spent 30 hours with Mueller exchanging gefilte fish and kishke recipes. Hannity’s final guest tonight is Rudy Guiliani, who will prove Don McGahn actually doesn’t exist and the New York Times, the Deep State, Hillary, and Obama made all of this up!

  4. RE: the polls. McDonald’s French Fries should come with a warning about addiction.

There are times I will stop at McDonalds just to get an order of fries. Or if I am getting fast food- any kind of fast food- if there is a McDonald’s near by, I will get the sandwhich for one place , and stop at McDonalds for the fries as well.

  5. A third letter protesting applying a political litmus test to security clearances. This one has 175 signers.

Who’s in … An organizer tells me: “This third statement includes career officials — from Nick Rasmussen, former Director of NCTC, to Bill Burns, former Deputy Secretary of State, to Doug Wise, former Deputy Director of DIA, to political folks from both sides of the aisle — including Tony Lake, former National Security Advisor and Sean O’Keefe, former Secretary of the Navy and NASA Administrator as well as more than 10 former U.S. Ambassadors and more than 20 former U.S. Attorneys.”

I hope John Brennan, the worst CIA Director in our country’s history, brings a lawsuit. It will then be very easy to get all of his records, texts, emails and documents to show not only the poor job he did, but how he was involved with the Mueller Rigged Witch Hunt. He won’t sue!

  7. James Clapper is on TV saying (paraphrased):
Yeah, Trump shouldn’t be fiddling with security clearances, but Brennan shouldn’t be talking about him in the manner he is.

    STOP! Just stop!
We really need people to stop equivocating here. It feeds the beast.

  8. Rudy, Rudy, Rudy.

  9. I read an excellent article about Trump and his supporters this morning whose content can be summed up in it’s opening statement:

“If character matters in a president, then defend Trump having any. If it doesn’t then don’t play whataboutism games.”

The article exposes the hypocrisy of the Trump supporters and shows their obvious cognitive dissonance in their vain support of Donald Trump.

The most telling part of the article was actually the comments following it. I read the most recent 6 comments and 5 out of 6 of those comments demonstrated the truth of the article with their defense of Donald Trump. I suspect they didn’t even realize they were giving examples of the points being made.

If it weren’t so sad, it would be humorous.

  10. CNN just now:
47% of respondents approve of the way the Mueller investigation is being handled. Up 6% since June.

Keep bloviating Crazy-Rudy and Dotard Don

  11. Swalwell is making noises about running for POTUS. I’ve seen him on TV a lot and I mostly like the cut of his jib.
If I have to get behind a Democrat for the first time since water was wet, he may be it.

Michael Cohen is under investigation. Walls are closing in on Roger Stone. And @RudyGiuliani is making more messes than a 10-week puppy. For @realDonaldTrump, the #RussiaInvestigation is becoming like his businesses: liabilities are outnumbering assets.

  12. I have no idea about this website, so I will fully admit that this could not be credible, but given recent comments and actions I have seen in the more popular press, first by Trump then by Falwell, it is not hard to believe that this is absolutely true.

Liberty University is censoring it’s student newspaper to become nothing more than a propaganda tool marketing the truth as decided by Donald Trump (and to a lesser extent, Jerry Falwell, Jr. in his service)

I would say unbelievable, but you all know it’s not.

  13. The Ukraine, Italy, Greece, Georgia, Russia, Serbia and France have had the most cases. Anti-vaccination sentiment is said to be high in France and Italy.
    https://www.msn.com/en-us/health/medical/measles-cases-reach-record-high-in-europe/ar-BBMb97W?OCID=ansmsnnews11

Cases of measles have reached a record high in Europe this year, with more cases recorded in the first six months of 2018 than any other 12-month period this decade, according to the World Health Organization (WHO).

More than 41,000 children and adults contracted measles in the European region from January to June — almost double the number of people infected with measles for all of 2017

  14. Almost the entire length of the US-Mexico border runs through arid terrain that is prone to flash flooding. That is because the total annual precipitation may fall in a very short timeframe. In the past, walls built along this border have often made flash flooding worse. This article looks at past floods and how additional or enhanced walls might make future flash flooding worse.

  15. President Trump is again criticizing the Fed for its monetary policy. From CNBC:

President Donald Trump is grousing again about his Federal Reserve chairman, telling political donors that he was hoping for easier monetary policy.

Speaking at a fundraiser in the Hamptons on Friday, Trump said he thought Fed Chairman Jerome Powell would favor cheaper money and not have such a heavy hand when it comes to interest rate hikes, according to Bloomberg, which cited three sources who attended the event.

    https://www.cnbc.com/2018/08/20/trump-takes-another-shot-at-fed-chairman-for-raising-rates.html

President Trump need look no farther than Turkey or Venezuela to see the harm that can be created when a central bank loses its independence and becomes little more than a captive of politicians (many of whom have, at best, a dim understanding of economics).

Fortunately, the Fed takes its independence seriously. I don’t expect Trump’s latest remarks to lead the Fed to re-evaluate its monetary policy strategy. Interest rate changes will remain data-informed.
