Senator John McCain passed away on August 25th, 2018, just a day after his family announced the Senator would stop medical treatment for brain cancer. Tributes from social media and bloggers alike poured in as the country honored the eighty-one year old senator. 

On Thursday Senator McCain’s memorial from his beloved state of Arizona found speakers, Grant Wood, Senator McCain’s former chief of staff sharing stories of Senator McCain’s election runs for the senate, Arizona Cardinals player Larry Fitzgerald Jr., explained the unlikely friendship between himself the athlete and the Arizona Senator, saying that Senator McCain didn’t judge individuals on things such as skin color, that he “evaluated them on the merits of their character and the contents of the heart.” Thursday also found former senator and Vice-President Joe Biden delivering an emotional speech remembering his friend John McCain. After the moving ceremony from Arizona concluded, as the family and Senator McCain left the church to the tune of ‘My Way,’ by Frank Sinatra, he was then flown to Washington D.C.

Friday Senator John McCain will lie in state at the United States Capital. The ceremony expected to start at 11 a.m. eastern time will take place in the U.S. Capital Rotunda followed by a public viewing from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. eastern.
