TNB Night Owl – 2018 Ig Nobels

Once again the Ig Nobels have been announced.  Unlike many “alternative” awards, the Ig Nobels are not about being the worst.  They’re just about being… different.  Real science, reminding everyone that many professional scientists are just weird people with methodical research.

As always, the presenters for the Ig Nobel prizes are actual Nobel Prize winners, and the prizes went out for researchers whose efforts first make people laugh, then make people think.  The Igs are awarded by the Annals of Improbable Research and are now in their 28th year of presentation.

Winners this year include:

MEDICINE PRIZE [USA] — Marc Mitchell and David Wartinger, for using roller coaster rides to try to hasten the passage of kidney stones.

PEACE PRIZE [SPAIN, COLOMBIA] — Francisco Alonso, Cristina Esteban, Andrea Serge, Maria-Luisa Ballestar, Jaime Sanmartín, Constanza Calatayud, and Beatriz Alamar, for measuring the frequency, motivation, and effects of shouting and cursing while driving an automobile.
