Criminals are a cowardly and superstitious lot. They should know better than to tangle with Batman. Even when he’s fictional and they’re real, he’ll STILL catch them.
Because he’s Batman.
30 year old Philip Weisbauer was caught in Phoenix, Arizona trying to sell four early Batman and Detective Comics issues worth almost $100,000. He had stolen them, and the remainder of a Batman comic collection valued at over $1 million, from their owner in Boca Raton, Florida.
As yet, the remaining comics have not been recovered.
The comics were discovered missing from an climate-controlled indoor storage in early January. Two weeks later, the thief is under arrest… because one of the reasons some comics are extremely valuable is their rarity. Early titles in particularly high grade condition have typically been professionally graded with every minor flaw recorded and, often photographed. When something goes missing from a high-end collection, dealers throughout the country are notified about specific titles to watch for. If a title is very rare and the thief tries to sell it quickly (when the theft is still fresh in the mind of reputable dealers) he’s virtually guaranteed to be caught.
Cowardly, superstitious and stupid. Don’t mess with Batman.
Question of the night: What’s your favorite Batman incarnation?
