Coronavirus Vaccine News:

Pfizer announced early Monday that;

Vaccine candidate was found to be more than 90% effective in preventing COVID-19 in participants without evidence of prior SARS-CoV-2 infection in the first interim efficacy analysis.

Analysis evaluated 94 confirmed cases of COVID-19 in trial participants.

Study enrolled 43,538 participants, with 42% having diverse backgrounds, and no serious safety concerns have been observed; Safety and additional efficacy data continue to be collected.

Submission for Emergency Use Authorization (EUA) to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) planned for soon after the required safety milestone is achieved, which is currently expected to occur in the third week of November.

Clinical trial to continue through to final analysis at 164 confirmed cases in order to collect further data and characterize the vaccine candidate’s performance against other study endpoints.

Announcement con’t:

The Phase 3 clinical trial of BNT162b2 began on July 27 and has enrolled 43,538 participants to date, 38,955 of whom have received a second dose of the vaccine candidate as of November 8, 2020. Approximately 42% of global participants and 30% of U.S. participants have racially and ethnically diverse backgrounds. The trial is continuing to enroll and is expected to continue through the final analysis when a total of 164 confirmed COVID-19 cases have accrued. The study also will evaluate the potential for the vaccine candidate to provide protection against COVID-19 in those who have had prior exposure to SARS-CoV-2, as well as vaccine prevention against severe COVID-19 disease. In addition to the primary efficacy endpoints evaluating confirmed COVID-19 cases accruing from 7 days after the second dose, the final analysis now will include, with the approval of the FDA, new secondary endpoints evaluating efficacy based on cases accruing 14 days after the second dose as well. The companies believe that the addition of these secondary endpoints will help align data across all COVID-19 vaccine studies and allow for cross-trial learnings and comparisons between these novel vaccine platforms. The companies have posted an updated version of the study protocol at https://www.pfizer.com/science/coronavirus.

Prifzer and BioNTech believe they will “produce globally up to 50 million vaccine doses in 2020 and up to 1.3 billion doses in 2021.”

Dr. Fauci told CNN in a phone interview “This shows that the mRNA platform actually does work. And there’s another vaccine candidate, Moderna, that’s using the same platform.”

President-Elect Biden issued a statement:

Last night, my public health advisors were informed of this excellent news. I congratulate the brilliant women and men who helped produce this breakthrough and to give us such cause for hope.

At the same time, it is also important to understand that the end of the battle against COVID-19 is still months away. This news follows a previously announced timeline by industry officials that forecast vaccine approval by late November. Even if that is achieved, and some Americans are vaccinated later this year, it will be many months before there is widespread vaccination in this country.

This is why the head of the CDC warned this fall that for the foreseeable future, a mask remains a more potent weapon against the virus than the vaccine. Today’s news does not change this urgent reality. Americans will have to rely on masking, social distancing, contact tracing, hand washing, and other measures to keep themselves safe well into next year. Today’s news is great news, but it doesn’t change that fact.

America is still losing over 1,000 people a day from COVID-19, and that number is rising–and will continue to get worse unless we make progress on masking and other immediate actions. That is the reality for now, and for the next few months. Today’s announcement promises the chance to change that next year, but the tasks before us remain the same.

Update:

And so it begins?

12:54 p.m. D.C., time.

2. Announces that Chris Miller will be the new acting Defense Secretary.
3. Says Mark Esper has been terminated.

NBC News has reported on November 5th, that according to three defense officials Defense Secretary Mark Esper had prepared his resignation letter.

Defense Secretary Mark Esper has prepared a letter of resignation, according to three current defense officials.

It’s not uncommon for Cabinet secretaries to prepare undated letters of resignation during a presidential transition, giving the commander in chief the chance to replace them for a second term. The president decides whether to accept the resignation letters, and the process usually occurs after the election results are clear.

But defense officials say Esper prepared his letter because he is one of the Cabinet officials long expected to be pushed out after the election.

NBC News. 11/05/2020.

Silly season, indeed.

Update #2.

And as if firing a cabinet member wasn’t enough for Monday, he’s back with 5 more bullshit election disinformation tweets. There are also called lying, he’s lying again, via tweet. Shocking.

4. Tells us to “Stay tuned!”.

Yeah, apparently, he’s gonna tell us whether than show us that he won the election, never mind, the fact that he lost.

5. Nevada worth 6 EV’s was a hotbed of “Fake Votes.”

New York Times 2020 Presidential Election map. Trump v Biden.

In 2016 the Impeached One-term Lame Duck President lost Nevada to Hillary Clinton (D). She won the state by 27,202 votes.

An example of the voter fraud happening in Nevada.

On Sunday The Wall Street Journal reported that the Trump campaign attorneys “released a list of 3,000 people who they said voted in Nevada after moving to another state, they said it was evidence of voter fraud in a closely contested battleground state.”

Trump campaign attorneys sent U.S. Attorney General Bill Barr a letter Thursday alleging “criminal voter fraud” in Nevada and asking for an investigation. It sent Mr. Barr a list of unnamed individuals who “appear to have improperly cast mail ballots” in Nevada after moving elsewhere, according to a search of what it called a change-of-address database. The publicly released list gave ZIP Codes of where the voters currently and previously lived, but no other personally identifying information or dates of moves.

The ACLU of Nevada, which does nonpartisan election-protection work in the state, said it has heard from military voters who think they are on the list. The ACLU said the Trump campaign list includes changes of address to at least 129 Army/Air Post Office addresses, 13 Fleet Post Offices and 15 Diplomatic Post Offices—all designations of military bases. There are others the ACLU said are located in cities near military hubs.

Con’t.

The Trump campaign’s accusations of voter fraud have angered some military personnel and their families.
“It’s shocking that the Trump campaign would call these military members criminals for exercising their right to vote,” said Amy Rose, who said she found what appears to be herself and her husband, an Air Force major, on the list by matching up the ZIP Codes of where they lived in Nevada and where they now live in Northern California.

Ms. Rose, an attorney who works with veterans, and her husband kept their Nevada voter registrations when the Air Force transferred him to the Defense Innovation Unit in Silicon Valley, she said. She said she and her husband—a flight-test engineer—still considered Nevada home.
“Our voter registration is in Nevada, our cars are registered in Nevada, our licenses are in Nevada,” said Ms. Rose, who said she voted but declined to say for whom. “We just don’t live there because the military has told us to move somewhere else.”

Adam Laxalt, the former Nevada attorney general and Nevada Trump campaign co-chairman who has touted the voter-fraud allegations, said the list was an example of voting irregularities.
“I don’t know whether these are military folks or not, we just know this is a group of voters that have filed a change of address, yet still voted,” said Mr. Laxalt, who served as a lieutenant in the U.S. Navy as a prosecutor and legal adviser, including in Iraq. “We believe that some or all of these voters are improper, and a crime has been committed.”

WSJ. 11/08/2020.

AP already called Nevada for President-Elect Biden, who is currently 36.186 votes ahead of Sore Loser.

7. Lies and gets Twitter labeled, again.

The Washington Post reported “As absentee ballots helped Biden overtake Trump in Pennsylvania last week, Republicans sought to stop Philadelphia officials from counting them. Their argument: GOP observers had been barred from the rooms where the votes were being counted.”

The problem: That wasn’t true.
Republican observers were there, after all. Trump had “a nonzero number of people in the room,” one of his attorneys conceded in federal court Thursday evening.
“I’m sorry, then what’s your problem?” asked U.S. District Judge Paul S. Diamond, who denied the request to halt the count.

Trump’s team saw a few small victories in the state, though none seems likely to come close to affecting the race’s outcome. The campaign won an order to move observers closer to the counting machines in Philadelphia.

And it succeeded in getting Supreme Court Justice Samuel A. Alito Jr. to issue an order that election officials must separate ballots that arrived after Election Day but before Friday evening — a step that counties have already taken. Under an earlier ruling by the state Supreme Court, election officials may tally those ballots, which are a tiny fraction of the overall vote, but state officials have ordered them to be kept segregated in case of further legal challenges.

In Northampton County, Pa., for instance, a judge wrote that the local GOP needed to prove why it would be injured if voters had a chance to correct their ballots. “As a result, its request for an injunction must fail,” wrote Judge Michael J. Koury Jr.
On Saturday, Trump’s lawyer Rudolph W. Giuliani said that the campaign was preparing to file another lawsuit Monday, alleging wrongdoing on a grand scale in Pennsylvania. “Many cases are going to be filed — some big, some small. This is going to be eventually a big case,” Giuliani said.

New York Times 2020 Presidential Map. Trump v. Biden.

In Georgia according to the Washington Post “Trump’s campaign filed a lawsuit the day after the election, focused narrowly on absentee ballots in Chatham County, home to Savannah. The campaign asked that any absentee ballots arriving after polls closed on Tuesday be set aside. For most voters, Georgia requires ballots to arrive before the end of Election Day, though there’s an exception for military voters and overseas voters.”

The Trump campaign cited an affidavit from a poll worker who said he thought he might have seen late-arriving ballots improperly mingled with ones cast on time. Even if that was true, it was not an election-changing problem: The allegation dealt with a small number of ballots in a single county.
Georgia Democrats filed two affidavits from other poll workers who said they observed no such intermingling. A Georgia judge dismissed Trump’s suit in one day, writing that there was “no evidence” the county elections board had failed to comply with the law.

Washington Post. 11/08/2020

For what it’s worth:

Chair of the Democratic party in Wisconsin Ben Wilker to CBS News, said that he has no concerns that recount would flip the election in Wisconsin, because President-Elect Biden leads with plus 20,000 votes which would put a recount out of the realm of “flip ability” adding that no recount in the states history has moved that many votes.
