President’s injured hand explained: a scratch from playing with Barron

Last Thursday, during his interview with Hannity while visiting the southern border, President Trump sported a blood stained bandage on his right hand, Politico reported. The Band-Aid was visible again on Monday during his trip to New Orleans but gone later in the day.

On Tuesday, White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders explained how the injury was sustained. She told Politico, “The President was having fun and joking around with his son Barron and scratched his hand.” Barron is 12 years-old.

The bandage raised speculation about the president’s health one year after his last known exam. Sanders noted that 72 year-old Trump will be once again receiving his annual physical – the details are being planned and will be released to the public. She did not give a date for the exam.

During Trump’s last exam, given by then-White House physician, Ronny Jackson, he was found to be just one pound shy of being obese. Dr. Jackson gave him a glowing report and proclaimed the president to have “great genes”.

In a strange coincidence, Sean Hannity’s hand was also bandaged during the interview with the president. The martial arts aficionado told Politico that he injured his hands on an opponents’ head gear recently and quipped, “What? Do you think we colluded to have Band-Aids on?”

Why It Matters

While the president’s Band-Aid may be inconsequential, covering a benign injury, this White House is not known to be a well-spring of truth. It is unsurprising that people are skeptical that Sanders, on behalf of the president, is not being truthful. When an administration peddles lies, falsehoods, and alternative facts on a daily basis, they should not be surprised that people don’t believe a word they say.

Furthermore, the president’s health is our concern. His behavior is increasingly erratic and his health, mental and physical, is in question. The exuberant report given last year by Dr. Jackson, in combination with the equally exuberant report by Dr. Harold Bornstein, a gastroenterologist in New York, in 2015, which declared that Trump “would be the healthiest individual ever elected to the presidency,” brings any report on President Trump’s health into question.
