April Winchell is a successful voice actress. That said, there are many people who, while publicly glad for her, secretly hope that she’ll decide that she has enough free time and the inclination to revive one of the internet’s most beloved cult sites, Regretsy.
For the unfamiliar, Regretsy was the spotlight illuminating the oddest entries on the crafting site Etsy. It was billed as “Where DIY Meets WTF” The site, which closed in February 2013, displayed particularly questionable crafting choices with a link to the Etsy store where a person could buy the item. Then there would be snark.
It even spawned its own book, which is not particularly expensive but is quite fun. The publisher’s copy reads:
A chicken poncho. A painting of a corn dog. A clock made out of an old “mostly clean” cheese grater. All this and more await you in the pages of Regretsy, a veritable sideshow of handcrafts gone wrong. Based on the eponymous hit blog and arranged in categories such as Décor, Pet Humiliation, and Christmas, Regretsy showcases the best of the worst, ranging from the hilariously absurd to the purely horrifying. Each page of this jaw-dropping volume features the actual seller’s online listing with a light coat of snarky commentary to give it a good shellacking. So join us as we descend into handmade hell and gawk, gasp, and marvel at the disturbingly odd artifacts that Regretsy has collected for your viewing pleasure, proving that you can never have too much of a bad thing.
Does this make you curious? Then you’re lucky! While the site has unfortunately gone away, Good Housekeeping was kind enough to do a review on it… and showcase some of the, um, “classic” items that were once available.
And it’s a SLIDESHOW!
You can still see the You Are Magnicifent! wall hanging (Regretsy: “‘Magnicifent’? Hardly! This piece is positively majsetic!”)
And the Lady Gaga embroidered toilet paper (Regretsy: “Are there really people who save toilet paper in scrap books? Is this really a thing? And if so, do you call it ‘crapbooking?'”)
And the yarn monster dress (Regretsy: “This might be the best ‘Girl trying to look sexy in a stupid $335 dress’ costume I’ve seen this year.”)
Fear not, though. While Regretsy may be gone, Etsy is still providing a forum for crafts both exemplary and awful, and as long as crafting projects like this one remain:

Question of the night: What is your biggest crafting failure (or dubious success?)
