Often times social media is a negative place with hate, lies, insults, but sometimes a rare thing happens and one is reminded that people are in fact capable of being decent human beings.
On Saturday when the news of Senator John McCain’s (R-AZ) passing hit everything seemed to be placed on hold for moments while this 81 year old man’s life was acknowledged, his daughter Meghan McCain and his wife Cindy each posted a statement to twitter

My heart is broken. I am so lucky to have lived the adventure of loving this incredible man for 38 years. He passed the way he lived, on his own terms, surrounded by the people he loved, in the the place he loved best.

Having had a Twitter account since 2009 I noticed something Saturday night, that I had not seen before, Senator McCain was 8 out of the 10 “trends for you” that’s the place were Twitter records what is being most “tweeted” about given a period of time. Within an hour of the announcement he filled 8 of those 10 spots

There are many more examples, both current and former politicians, each former President posted a statement, outpourings of respect, love, and admiration. In fairness there are the bad, the downright ugly, but overall the majority of responses are all bittersweet remembrance of a man who among all his flaws deeply loved America and served her with honor.
This is just a glimpse into how deeply his lose is felt in Arizona

As a side note much speculation is given to whom will be named to fill Senator McCain’s senate seat, by the Governor of Arizona, Doug Ducey, CBS News reports no named successor until after Senator John McCain is laid to rest, according to Senior communications and policy adviser for Ducey, Daniel Ruiz, “Now is a time for remembering and honoring a consequential life well lived.”
