Attack on Iranian Military Parade
On Saturday, Ynet News reported, “gunmen attacked a military parade marking 38 years to Iran-Iraq war in the southwest Iranian city of Ahvaz.”
Ynet reports the IRNA (Iranian Republic News Agency) said 24 were dead and 54 wounded, and that half of the reported killed were Revolutionary Guards. Citing an unnamed source, the IRNA added “there are a number of non-military victims, including women and children who had come to watch the parade.”
Reports are conflicting at this point. Ynet further reported the IRNA said the attacks were carried out by two gunmen on motorcycles. However, the Independent reports the “semi-official ISNA” Farsi news, which is the Iranian Students News Agency, and Iranian television – there were “four assailants …hiding at a park adjacent to the parade grounds, wearing military uniforms, before opening fire in an attack that lasted 10 minutes.”
It is not clear who exactly the attackers are at this point either. According to the Independent’s report “Ahwazi Democratic Popular Front, an obscure separatist group demanding autonomy for Iran’s Arab minority, took responsibility for what it described in a statement as “a triumphant operation” against the “occupying” forces of Tehran.”
Although ISIS later took claim for responsibility “via its Amaq news platform, incorrectly suggesting Iran’s president Hassan Rouhani, was at the parade.”
BuzzFeed News reporter Jason Leopold brings us this from a Friday Buzzfeed’s Money Trail story, titled, “The Planners Of The Trump Meeting Moved Millions, And Mueller Now Investigating,” adding, “Documents show suspicious transfers began six days before the controversial meeting.”

NBC News’ senior investigative and legal correspondent Cynthia McFadden sat down last Monday in an exclusive interview with Rob Goldstone, the guy who set up the infamous 2016 “Trump Tower Meeting,” which aired on NBC’s TODAY show.

The New York Times is suing the FCC “for records the newspaper alleges may reveal possible Russian government interference in a public comment period before the commission rolled back Obama-era net neutrality rules,” according to a Thursday Bloomberg BNA report.

ARS Technica reports the story as a series of back and forth between the NYT and the FCC resulting in the NYT now suing in New York’s Southern District Court.
The Times made a Freedom of Information Act (FoIA) request in June 2017 for FCC server logs related to the system for accepting public comments on FCC Chairman Ajit Pai’s repeal of net neutrality rules. The FCC refused to provide the records, telling the Times that doing so would jeopardize the privacy of commenters and the effectiveness of the agency’s IT security practices and that fulfilling the records request would be overly burdensome.
This led to a months-long process in which the Times repeatedly narrowed its public records request in order to overcome the FCC’s various objections. But the FCC still refuses to release any of the records requested by the Times, so the newspaper sued the commission yesterday in US District Court for the Southern District of New York.
