The news these days is often depressing at worst and frustrating at best. It’s easy to let it get us down. Never fear… The News Blender has you covered. Once a week we feature Something Good and, in return, all you have to do is tell us something good that has happened to you this week, something you are thankful for, a joke, a cute animal story, an inspiring tale of heroics, a Random Act of Kindness… SOMETHING good.

Today’s something good is friendships, old and new.

Wholesome Thanksgiving stories never get old, especially in times of such dark days filled with bad news.

Jamal Hinton and his girlfriend Mikaela celebrated Thanksgiving with Wanda Dench, six years after she accidentally texted him an invitation to dinner. She welcomed him to her table then and every year since. This year Jamal brought the pumpkin pie.

Reflecting on what she would have missed out on if she hadn’t invited Jamal to dinner, Wanda said, “I’ve changed my view totally of the younger generation. And now that I reflect back on all these years, I realize I didn’t change their lives. They changed mine.”

An update on one of the stories from last week: Susana Orrego Villegas and her husband Edward White spent the holiday with Carol Lesser and her family and friends. They spent eight hours at her home and spent time talking to everyone present. Susana said she and Edward felt “like they were part of the pod”. After making an instant connection, the couple offered to have Carol visit their Columbian hometown.

Lastly, a woman named Kiki Nagy, a volunteer with an organization called Miry’s List, invited a family of Afghan refugees to spend Thanksgiving with her and her friends.

Wahidullah Asqhary, an interpreter for the US military, was able to come to America with his four children last year and his wife followed five months later. Wahid is determined that his children will make the most of the opportunity they have been given. And, in the true spirit of Thanksgiving, they are exceedingly thankful to be together as a family and safe in the US.

Now it’s your turn… Tell me something good!
