Biden Bits: America is a Nation of Hope, Unity, and Optimism…

It’s Wednesday.

We have reached the day after mid-term elections. President Biden doesn’t have a public schedule for today; at least posted to any site I can access for free.

So, we solider on…

I had promised to update the election thread and failed miserably…

But today is a new day…

When the post was posted for Mid-Term Election Day Tuesday, President Biden had tweeted 3 times. He added 7 tweets giving him a Mid-Term Election Day Tuesday Tweeting Total of 10 tweets and 0 retweets.

The majority of the tweets focus on voting, so I’m gonna paste without comment. As all that’s left now is the counting…

The first added tweet is a group tweet between POTUS and the White House.

The above 55 second video clip features a montage of images with the voice over snip from President Biden’s remarks on the Continued Battle for the Soul of the Nation.

President Biden: I believe America is at an inflection point — one of those moments that determine the shape of everything that’s to come after.

President Biden: The soul of America is defined by the sacred proposition that all are created equal in the image of God.  That all are entitled to be treated with decency, dignity, and respect.  That all deserve justice and a shot at lives of prosperity and consequence.  And that democracy — democracy must be defended, for democracy makes all these things possible.  (Applause.)  Folks, and it’s up to us.

President Biden: And now America must choose: to move forward or to move backwards?  To build the future or obsess about the past?  To be a nation of hope and unity and optimism, or a nation of fear, division, and of darkness?

President Biden: I made a bet on you, the American people, and that bet is paying off.  Proving that from darkness — the darkness of Charlottesville, of COVID, of gun violence, of insurrection — we can see the light.  Light is now visible.  (Applause.) Light that will guide us forward not only in words, but in actions — actions for you, for your children, for your grandchildren, for America.

President Biden: We just need to remember who we are.  We are the United States of America.  The United States of America.  (Applause.)

This morning when I first opened Twitter (I always check notifications first as I designed my Twitter account to focus on news things before being dragged into bullshit tweets)…

I saw this tweet:

Snips from the linked story:

The Ann Arbor City Clerk Satellite Office at UMMA opened on Sept. 27 and remained open until the last voter of the night, Rackham student Erik Pedersen, cast his ballot at 2:05 a.m. after waiting in line for 6 hours.

“I was teaching my classes and I didn’t have time (to vote) at any point during the day,” Pedersen said. “I saw the line out here and I felt I had to make the effort to get out here and I got in line just in time as they were closing the doors.”

[snip]

“Everyone’s been very supportive and upbeat,” Pedersen said. “People have been bringing me pizza. This coat and blanket is not mine — somebody gave it to me and everybody’s been very nice so far.”

Kulin Oak, LSA and Business senior, said he joined the UMMA line around 7:30 p.m. and would continue to wait despite the cold weather. As a Michigan resident, Oak said he is taking advantage of same-day registration.

“I know that if I don’t stay in the line, I miss my chance to vote, and I don’t want to let people who have different views than myself vote on policy that’s gonna affect me and my family,” Oak said. “So I want to at least give my best shot at having my voice be heard.”

Oak said he was particularly interested in casting a vote for incumbent Gov. Gretchen Whitmer and voting ‘Yes’ on Proposal 3, a ballot initiative that would enshrine the right to an abortion and other reproductive health measures in the Michigan Constitution.

From the New York Times election results page by state:

CandidatePartyVotesPercentPct.
Gretchen Whitmer*incumbentDemocrat2,337,12054.1%

Proposal 3:

No1,829,312+43.8%

All and all the mid-terms were not a Red Wave or a Blue Wave. It looks likely that the Republicans will take back that House; but with a narrower margin than predicted. It looks likely that Georgia will have a runoff unless Senator Warnock can get a push over the 50 percent needed. Currently the New York Times has Warnock at 49.41 percent and Walker at 48.52 percent with 95 percent of the votes in.

Here are some of my highlights…

This isn’t a tweet but makes me super happy even though the New York Times still says they estimate Bobblehead doll wins in the end…

“Awful lot to learn” he says…

What they need to learn; is character for the most part does still matter and hooking yourself to a Twice Impeached and failed 1 term president cult leader isn’t a winning move. That the majority of Americans think abortion and reproductive decision are between that woman and her doctor and not between, her, her doctor, and some elected asshole.

I think the most important so far take away from this mid-term is that what R’s really need to learn the most is; attempting to over throw our democracy is not a winning campaign model.

But will they learn it?

This is an Open Thread.
